In light of a foreseeable return to dance floors thanks to the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, Australian DJ Dom Dolla arrives with “Pump The Brakes,” one of Dancing Astronaut‘s most-anticipated IDs of the year. In early 2020, the tech-house aficionado made the unfavorable decision to post-pone the single’s release due to the widespread cancellation of concerts. Dom shared,
“I produced this record specifically to play at the Shrine in LA in early 2020 (which turned out to be a few weeks before the world shut down)…I wasn’t sure what to do with the record when dance floors paused around the world. But I’ve received requests for it every other day since. All things considered, I figured it’s probably time to get it out there into the world. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed giving it a rev on the dance floor.”
The “Define” producer clearly intended that “Pump The Brakes” be heard live—at least a few times—before its digital release. Well, because of imploring fans and the pandemic’s relentless timeline, the ARIA award-winner has cemented his first single of 2021. The high octane house cut delivers a mesmerizing four-on-the-floor bass groove layered over a Chris Lake-esque lead vocal. Lyrically, “Pump The Brakes” is an ode to Dom’s first car. He explained,
“It was written as a tongue in cheek story partly inspired by my first car, an old Camry that collects dust in Melbourne while I’m away on tour.”
The timeworn vehicle reflects the beginning of Dom’s career, even before he was coined Dancing Astronaut’s “Breakout Artist of 2019”. Inspired by the anticipation and excitement he once experienced as a budding producer, the Melbourne talent is back and better than ever on his latest.
