The EDM music scene is growing rapidly, and new artists are emerging, with some, like Mike Hoang, quickly becoming household names. Mike Hoang, popularly known as Hoang, has made a name for himself as a talented electronic music producer and DJ. In three years, he has accumulated 100M+ streams on Spotify and YouTube and had several sold-out shows in the US, with EDM fans globally praising his unique style and sound.
Hoang creates music that resonates with people on an emotional level. His songs often incorporate themes of love, self-reflection, heartbreak, and life in general. Typically, Hoang writes music that captures moments in life as he reflects on his own experiences through nostalgia.
Since his debut in 2018, Hoang has written several hit tracks, including “Run Back to You”, “Don’t Say”, “Hard Part’s Over”, “People Change”, and “Million Days”, which placed him on the global map. The song “Million Days,” released on Monstercat, is one of Hoang’s biggest releases. It hit an all-familiar chord with people all over the world, resulting in over 30M streams on Spotify.
Recently, he has teamed up with San Francisco based Producer/DJ MVSE with “Moments” featuring RYNN, signed to Insomniac’s imprint Lost in Dreams.
Hoang has worked with well-known names in the music industry, including talented vocalist Nevve who featured in his debut single “Don’t Say.” He has also been on many tours. Hoang has sold out multiple venues in LA, San Francisco, and Minneapolis and has performed at the notable Breakaway Musical Festival (Bay Area edition). Recently, Hoang supported ELEPHANTE on a massive 15-city tour across the USA.
Hoang says one of his goals is to create a platform where he can help other artists grow as he shares meaningful and timeless music with more people.
Hoang was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, and developed an interest in music at 8 when he began learning how to play the piano, produce music, and write music. But Hoang didn’t start professionally recording and releasing music until 2018. As an Asian-American EDM producer and DJ, he hopes to show other artists that they, too, can make it in the electronic music scene. Hoang also encourages his listeners to follow their passion.
Hoang had taken “the safer route” and got a sales job, which he dreaded. He felt like music was too risky and didn’t want to step out of his comfort zone. But he knew he had to do something and do it fast. “Heading into 2017, I really thought to myself that if I wanted to become an artist, I had to take real action. I had already been writing and producing music for years, but it was something I never took as seriously as other aspects of my life at the time,” says Hoang.
After some hard thinking and research, Hoang left his sales job to focus on music. While there have been challenges, he says following his passion was one of the best decisions he’s made, and the rewards are totally worth it. He encourages others to invest in their passions and take that first step because you will never know the outcome unless you do.
As he continues to thrive in the industry, Hoang is working on other projects. In the next few years, he sees himself making more songs that he loves and playing more shows.
